Charles Gurassa: easyJet has announced the appointment of 55 year old Charles Gurassa to its board as a non-executive director with effect from 27th June. He will also be appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Board and Senior Independent Director, with effect from 1st September. He has considerable experience within the airline and travel industry, previously working for TUI, British Airways and Thomas Cook and is currently Chairman of Genesis Housing Association and MACH and a Trustee at the National Trust. easyJet has also unveiled its newly created sales team under Claire Haigh, easyJet’s Head of UK Sales. James Marchant, a public sector specialist and joins easyJet after five years with Virgin Atlantic. He will focus on public sector departments who are serious about reducing travel costs. Adrian Keating a corporate specialist with over 10 years of experience with British Airways and Etihad and Paul Davis also a corporate specialist. He joins easyJet from Sabre Travel Network where he was responsible for premier accounts within new business sales.

 

Tony Tyler: IATA Director General and CEO Giuseppe Bisignani recently stepped down after tenure of nine years and has been appointed Director General Emeritus, an honorary title. He is succeeded by Tony Tyler who became the sixth person to lead the International Air Transport Association when he assumed the role on 1st July. Mr. Tyler, a British national, was born in Egypt in 1955 and graduated from Oxford University in Jurisprudence. He has broad international working experience in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, the Philippines and the United Kingdom. He built his career at John Swire & Sons in Hong Kong starting in 1977. From 1978 he moved within the Swire Group to Cathay Pacific Airways, eventually serving as its Chief Executive from July 2007 to March 2011. Before this, he held various senior positions at the airline, including Chief Operating Officer (2005-2007) and Director of Corporate Development (1996-2005). Concurrent with his work at Cathay Pacific, he was engaged in various responsibilities within the Swire Group. He was Chairman of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd. (2007-2011), Director of Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (1996-2008), a Director of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Limited (2008-2011) and a Director of Swire Pacific Limited (2008-2011). Internationally, Mr. Tyler served on the IATA Board of Governors from 2007 to 2011 and was its Chairman from June 2009 to June 2010. In other changes to the IATA Leadership, Peter Hartman, President and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, succeeds David Bronczek, CEO of FedEx Express, as Chairman of the IATA Board of Governors following the completion of Mr Bronczek’s one-year term. His appointment is also for one year.

 

 

Pilot Training College: Pictured at the Pilot Training College Waterford Training Centre, is Head of Training – Capt. Vincent Coultan with the first four Nasair Cadet pilots who successfully completed the advanced Graduate Pilot training Programme on 21st July 2011. During 2011, PTC expects to train up to 30 Nasair cadets and qualified pilots for the airline at its headquarters in Waterford. The first students from Nasair are Omar Mohsin O Almodhar, Khalid Waleed K Khan, Rayan Said S Basamh and Saleh Abdulaziz A Alaskar.
