On the 5th July, 2011, the North West Major Emergency Management Region held Exercise Shannon a "live" exercise which saw the involvement of three helicopters; the Garda Air Support Unit EC-135, the Irish Coast Guard S-61N and an Air Corps AW-139. The exercise simulated a major emergency involving a pleasure boat incident on Lough Allen, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim with a large number of casualties resulting in a Major Emergency declaration. The exercise proved to be realistic with very bad weather hence the quality of the photographs of the aircraft involved supplied by Gerard Kilgannon.
