I can think of more serious business, but off the top of my head "Take my breath away' by one hit wonder, Berlin.

Not much of a song, but the video was set in AMARC or similar aircraft breakers, with the band singing from the fuselage of a noseless Curtiss C-46. It came from the soundtrack of 'Top Gun' which famously showcased F5s, F14s, A4s and the legs of Kelly McGillis.

The singer looks like a skunk in that video.
Great pair of legs on McGillis for sure.

My favourite flying songs - part II

Postby Biturbo » Wed Oct 19, 2005 4:00 pm

OK, back to the subject.

How about "Learning to fly" by Pink Floyd. I have it on the compilation album Echoes and if you listen very carefully you can hear Dave Gilmour going over a pre-flight check list in the background of one of the instrumental passages. Dave appears to have a piston-engined single.

Music when flying

Postby Biturbo » Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:13 pm

RV-BLUE: You are correct - there was nothing wrong with the rest of Kelly McGillis either, but it was the legs that stole that hangar scene in Top Gun and stuck in my mind.

There was an entirely different sort of hangar scene in David Cronenberg's movie 'Crash' which I think involved a Cessna 414, but other things caught my eye. I've never been able to look at pictures of Deborah Kara Unger since without getting nasty little flashbacks.

On the backwards compatibility front, I'm proud to announce that I've managed to hook my MP3 player (2005 vintage) into my Cessna's intercom system (1966 vintage). It even mutes automatically when it picks up a conflicting signal from the radio. Now if I just had some decent music on the thing...

Its gotta be a rock classic. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "air guitar". Sorry I had to do it

And almost a whole year later...oops

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Is is tricky to do? Choons when flying would be deadly.

Yea but you gotta keep the squelch turned down. I was in a heli with a CD player and each time the radio cut in, the CD would stop and have to spool up again at the start of the song. Useless really, just listened to Today fm instead
