Flying on Christmas Day

Postby GJOYT » Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:45 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering who has done this before and what they did?

I doubt any airfields/small airports are open to purchase fuel should it be needed? Would Sligo be open with SAR based there?

I heard that Dublin let some guy in a microlight do a full stop, taxi back and take off one year without charging.

Dublin airport has heretofore been closed on Christmas Day so I doubt that he got permission to land. Incidentally, while the airport is itself closed the zone is still active so a plan must still be filed and other Class C rules still kept in compliance. This doesn't seem to deter because I see plenty of small aircraft flying around the city each Christmas Day.
