Re: Galway Airport ClosingI wonder if there's a bit of kite flying going on here? I don't think there is much scope for an industry to go in there. There's plenty of land around. As for the park and ride, it's too far out really.
It's best future is as an airfield. Sligo Airport is a good example of what can be done. They're still acting as if an airfield needs scheduled passenger traffic. They need to go back to basics.
Re: Galway Airport ClosingSligo has the SAR helicopter to keep its doors open, Galway unfortunately does not.
I hope that Galway Airport will remain in existence, but its is not looking too good, unless maybe a buyer is found.
Re: Galway Airport ClosingGalway Airport is still open to air traffic 0900 to 1700 Mon to Fri. ATC still providing service. Avgas still available and now costing €2.42 per litre plus VAT.
Re: Galway Airport ClosingI see from NOTAMs that Galway's hours of operation will be 0800 to 1900 on Wed 1st and Thurs 2nd of August and 0800 to 2000 UTC on Fri 3rd of August. That gives some useful extra time for anyone wanting to use it as a base for some touring or for fuel etc.
Re: Galway Airport ClosingCatering for race week obviously. Those are the big race days and an evening meeting on Friday. Good time to visit Galway although a big late to book accomodation.
