The 794-hour private pilot made an uneventful emergency landing on a public highway following a loss of engine power due to fuel starvation. Several attempts were made by the pilot to have the aircraft placed on a flatbed trailer and recovered to a suitable airport; however, the width of the trailer available for recovery was too narrow to accommodate the airplane\'s main landing gear. After several failed attempts to recover the airplane by ground, the pilot elected to fill the fuel tanks with 15 gallons of fuel and, in coordination with local law enforcement, attempt to takeoff from the private highway. Vehicular traffic was stopped in preparation of the airplane\'s takeoff from the highway. During the takeoff roll from the highway, the airplane\'s right wing collided with a side mirror of an 18-wheel truck and then struck the rear of an emergency vehicle. The collision with the vehicles made the airplane turn sharply to the right into a ditch, subsequently impacting trees. [More] [Less]

http://www.aviationvids.comAnother great video from Dan Linebarger. Here is his commentary: \"Attached is an approach into Big Creek Idaho (U60). Best approach into this strip (wind permitting) is from the North, landing on Runway 19. The runway is higher on both ends, low in the middle. Therefore, be prepared and set up to land on a surface that is sloping away from you on landing. Tie downs and closet toilet are on the south end. This was my first landing here and the approach should have been a bit higher. It\'s an easy walk to Big Creek Lodge. Great outfitter and good food. Aircraft is a 1959 C-172 180hp C/S prop. My co-Pilot and cameraman is Clyde Watson, also from Midland, TX. [More] [Less]

Broadcaster: Gero von Dehn, lead singer of the band \"Von Dane\" http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/an-insomniacs-guide-to-hell-on-earth/id302316569This is the infamous \"Plane Crash at Baseball Game\" that has been much talked about... (and viewed millions of times). This clip, however, represents the very first time the crash has been available in HQ. The last clip (which was much copied around the www) was very low rez, although it was hugely popular just in my account alone, with well over 3 million views.I\'ll eventually post more details about the crash here. In short, the pilot ran out of gas in one tank yet didn\'t switch over to the other tank which was full. Checklist fail. Be sure to check the comments on the other clip, which has somehow been disabled... hence the need to upload this HD version. This is a clip that belongs on television! Any video clip show is welcome to contact me for more information at todd @ goldpanners.com [More] [Less]

This plane crashed due to: The pilot overspeeding on the aproach, The pilot failed to flare, And he didn\'t go around after he hit the ground the first time. As you can see he does not attempt to save the plane but just lets it crash. The plane suffered broken nose wheel dmaged prop and the front cowling broke off. [More] [Less]

I kid you not, you wont see this every day. Maybe just as well. Jeremy Clarkson was seen on a pedal-cycle with one of these engines on the back, frightening little old ladies he passed going down the road, but thats Clarkson.

So-called over-the-top or cross-control stall accidents have been common among general aviation pilots for years. But no one has ever really documented what happens in one--until now. Thanks the widespread use of glass cockpits, this fatal stall accident has been extraordinarily well documented by accident investigators and includes a video re-creation. [More] [Less]

Pilot was so busy gabbing on final that he failed to drop the gear.. To those involved in aviation, this is actually more common than you might think. You hear this horn enough times and it becomes background noise. For some it takes bending a prop and possibly replacing an engine and other expensive components to learn this lesson, but learn they do!ALWAYS FLY WITH A CHECKLIST, PERIOD. [More] [Less]
