Located almost in the centre of Ireland, with no flying restrictions, Abbeyshrule is an excellent airfield to fly from. Its boasts an asphalt runway 799M long and 18M wide. Its home to Aeroclub 2000 who are an RTF (Registered Training Facility). Its home to many aircraft, which include a rather odd looking Malmo MF-1-9 Junior. Recent work on the north of the field has seen the construction of an assembly plant and a hanger(almost complete). The assembly plant at Abbeyshrule produces the Czech kit planes Samba and Lambada

The Ormand Flying Club has been in operation at Birr Airfield for over 30 years - Birr Airfield was originally called Birr View Air Strip. The area has always been closely linked with aviation for many years going back to the British Army Strip which was quite near the present field. The Club is a Registered Training Facility for the new JAR PPL Licence. The airfield boasts one landing strip which is orientated North/South. Please note that runway 07/25 has now been withdrawn from use. All are welcome!!!

Coonagh is home to the Limerick Flying Club. The field is located about 2NM west of Limerick City and has one hard surface runway, 28/10. The runway is only 416M long and 9M wide so extreme care must be taken when operating into Coonagh as the narrow runway may give the impression of a long runway. Coonagh lies very close to the Shannon CTR, just 1.5NM. Shannon CTA over the field stretches from 1000ft to 5000ft.

Aerphort Dhun na nGall commenced operation in 1986 and was developed, with the assistance of the Exchequer, Udaras na Gaeltachta, The Department of Public Enterprise, Private Investors, Donegal Co. Council, the International Fund for Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund. In the mid 1980's the runway was a mere grass strip, which was then replaced by a hard surface runway with temporary buildings and in the 1990's the runway was extended to 1,500 meters and a bright attractive terminal building with modern navigational aids and equipment were added. Donegal International Airport is situated on the West coast of Donegal in the area of the Rosses/Gweedore, just 40 minutes flying time from Dublin.

Dublin Airport, originally Colinstown Airport, was opened in 1940. It was served by Aer Lingus using its DH84 Dragon, Iolar, still flying today. Since then it has grown to become Ireland's biggest airport with 15.1 million passengers passing through it last year. Today several airlines are based at Dublin including Aer Lingus, Aer Arann, Ryanair and Cityjet. Dublin is also home to many business jets and aero clubs including the Airport Flying Club and Dublin Flyers. The marine emergency Sikorsky S.61 EI-MES is also based at Dublin which is operated by CHC Ireland. Dublin Airport is not as GA friendly these days with the recent introduction of PPR24.

In recent years there has been a noticeable increase in the volume of private charters visiting Galway, Netjets being one of the more notable frequent visitors. With over 22,000 traffic movements each year the airport is host to a vibrant general aviation community. Galway Flying Club is located on the airfield along with many privately owned aircraft. A helicopter training school is also located nearby.

Hacketstown is situated in the foot-hills of the Wicklow/Dublin mountains at Eagle Hill, Co. Carlow. The airfield has one runway, 16/34, which is just 375 meters in length. You would want to be a fairly proficient pilot to squeeze your aircraft in here. Added to that, the runway is on the side of a hill. IAA notes state that the runway is undulating but to me that is a bit of an understatement! In saying that there is a Britten Norman Defender based there so operations are not impossible...

One of Ireland's premier General Aviation airfields, Kilrush is only 30minutes drive from Dublin and seems relatively undiscovered by much of Ireland's pilots. Ian Valintine, the owner, has done a wonderful job in providing the facilities. It is also one of the best maintained airfields I have ever come across. Kilrush is home to over 50 aircraft including many microlights and ultralights. Kilrush also hangers many homebuilt aircraft, EI-BYL being one of them. Due to the location of Kilrush under the EI-R16, movements restrictions have been imposed by Baldonnel which prevents any flying schools operating from the field.

A difficult airfield to find, it is located north east of Thurles. There is not much that stands out in the airfield so it's not easily spotted from a distance. There is a large factory about 3/4 mile west of the field which may be the best landmark for the airfield. Features include a small hangar in the northwest corner of the field and a small windsock about 100 meters into the field from the treshold of runway 20. When we took this photo it appeared the runway was inhabited by sheep so PPR is very important. There was no one on frequency when we called. There are power cables on the approach to runway 20 to look out for.
